Although Islamic architecture is difficult to define collectively, the Taj Mahal seems to represent its essence and strongest characteristic. The tomb, is raised on a terrace and first seen reflected in the central canal, it adds to the beauty of Taj Mahal.

Red Fort:

The Red Fort, known locally as Lal Quila, is Delhi's signature attraction. The Red Fort is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Old Delhi, attracting thousands of visitors every year. Lal Quilah is reminder of the power and elegance of Mughal Emperors. Inside Quilah are an array of exquisite buildings; Diwan-i-Khas, Nahr-i-Behisht, Mumtaz Mahal, Rang Mahal, Moti Masjid, and Hayat Bakhsh Bagh, which once provided the living quarters for Shah Jehan, his courtiers, family and staff of three thousand. The Red Fort was originally referred to as "Qila-i-Mubarak" (the blessed fort), as it was the residence of the royal family. Today, a sound and light show describing Mughal history is a tourist attraction in the evenings. There is a museum of "blood paintings" depicting young Indian martyrs of the 20th century along with the story of their martyrdom. There is also an archaeological museum and an Indian war memorial museum.
